3 killed in jos again

At least three people were yesterday killed around Duala Hotel junction in Nasarawa Gwom area of Jos North local government area of Plateau State.

LEADERSHIP investigations revealed that, at about 9.45am, two men believed to be carrying explosive devices on them rode on a motorcycle along Nasarawa Gwom and, on getting to Duala Hotel junction, three of the explosive devices went off on them.

Our correspondent gathered that the three explosions took place between Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) and Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) in the area. It was further gathered that three people, including the carriers of the explosive devices, died in the incident.

LEADERSHIP also gathered that the explosive devices were suspected to have been targeted at the two churches before luck ran out on them. The bombs detonated before they could get to their targets, killing a bystander.

This development has sent panic to residents of Jos and its environs. People were rushing out of worship centres in fear.

The explosion disrupted the Hausa service of the two churches targeted; the English service was about to be rounded off when the explosion occurred in the area.

The youth in the area became angry and set ablaze the two corpses of the carriers of the explosive devices.

Confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP in Jos, the police public relations officer in Plateau State police command, ASP Apev Jacob, said two people died in the incident while security operatives had been deployed to the incident scene.

The police urged members of the public to go about their lawful business as security personnel were on top of the situation to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state and it environs.

At the time of filing this report normalcy had returned to the affected area.
